Types of Carpet Fibres

Here we go again! You guys want to know what carpet is made of! No, literally- what ARE the types of fibres that make up carpet? And more importantly, which carpet fibre type is best for your home?

Well here’s your answer:

Carpet is made from various synthetic and natural fibres. Each has unique qualities and characteristics.

· Nylon is the most popular. PROS: It’s durable and resistant to wear. CONS: It’s not good at fighting stains, so some varieties include a stain-resistant treatment.

· Olefin has many PROS: It’s resistant to moisture, mold, and mildew and makes a good carpet for basements and outdoors. CONS: It’s tougher than nylon, but not as comfortable to walk on.

· Acrylic PROS: It’s often used as an inexpensive alternative to wool. CONS: It’s not widely available.

· Wool PROS: It’s the premier carpet choice and the only natural fibre available. It’s durable and stain-resistant, and it’s considered an eco-friendly floor covering. Soft and warm; the luxurious choice.
